German media claims Will Osula wants to leave Newcastle United in January transfer window

Posted on November 30, 2025 by Jsport

Newcastle United striker Will Osula is reportedly keen to explore his options in the January transfer window.

A hectic deadline day saw the Dane almost leave the Magpies for £30million. Eintracht Frankfurt were set to sign Osula until changing tack at the final hour and pursuing a loan move – which Newcastle rejected.

Yoane Wissa’s arrival from Brentford went down to the wire and, ultimately, Osula stayed put. Currently sidelined with an ankle injury, the 22-year-old’s performances have improved this season.

Will Osula signs of improvement

A goal against Liverpool in August proved to be in vain but Osula has shown positive signs when called upon. He came off the bench to change the game in just four minutes as Newcastle came from behind to beat Fulham last month.

An impressive showing to put Bradford City to the sword – where Osula scored a brace – also raised his stock. As mentioned, he has barely featured since due to an ankle injury.

Eintracht Frankfurt still want Will Osula

German outlet Bild claims Frankfurt remain interested in Osula this winter. The report suggests he wants to leave the Magpies to pursue first-team football.

While Osula played sporadically earlier in the season, Wissa’s return is expected soon and that will push him further down the pecking order. PIF pulled the plug on deadline day once the terms changed but a similar transfer fee – not a loan – could see Newcastle strike a deal.

‘A relief’ – Eddie Howe on Will Osula

Eddie Howe admitted to being relieved at the decision to keep Osula at the club. He said: “The next step was for Will to try and play regularly, so that was the aim (with the Frankfurt move), especially with us bringing two strikers in.

“Obviously, it didn’t happen – and much to our relief it didn’t because Yoane picked up an injury and Will is vitally important. We believe in his talents. He’s got speed.

“You could see that when he came on the pitch the other day. He’s quick, athletic but, through his continued attitude to training, he’s got a better know-how and nous in terms of how to manage game situations. He’s benefited from that and coming on the pitch looking like the complete package.”
