Celtic make U-turn on signing that was close due to Wilfried Nancy sacking. It appears that Celtic have made a U-turn on a signing that was close due to Wilfried Nancy’s sacking.

Since his return, replacing Wilfried Nancy, for a third spell in the Parkhead hot seat, Martin O’Neill has made it very clear that he needs Celtic to make additions to the squad in the ongoing January transfer window. It is not hard to understand why as the squad is lacking in depth and quality in a number positions across the pitch.

The only signing they have made so far is a loan one, bringing in Julian Araujo from Bournemouth. To be fair to him, he did start and perform well this weekend in the 4-0 win over Dundee United. That being said, quite a few more additions are needed if the Hoops are serious about turning this campaign around and putting up a title challenge.

One can only wonder what kind of effect Nancy’s sacking will have on their transfer plans though. The Frenchman was having his side play a very different system and the targets must have been set accordingly.

In fact, it looks like it might lead to the collapse of one move that was believed to be close. At the very least, the sacking has put it on hold for the time being.

As reported by 24sata, the transfer of Niko Sigur was close to being completed. But it is currently on hold as Celtic have decided to change their manager and entire coaching staff.

Sigur is a versatile player currently on the books at Hajduk Split. He is also a full Canadian international.

He can play both as a defensive midfielder and a right-back with equal ease. Both are positions where the Hoops could do with reinforcements. So, it remains to be seen if they do end up pushing through with this move.
