Celtic can sign international goalkeeper for €4m to replace Kasper Schmeichel. It looks like Celtic can sign the international goalkeeper for around €4 million to replace the struggling Kasper Schmeichel.

It would be safe to say that Celtic need to strengthen in multiple positions. So far, they have been linked with a ton of players. Moves for the likes of Kyogo, Niko Sigur and Jocelin Ta Bi have seemed close but fallen apart at the final steps for one reason or another. The only new signing has been that of Julian Araujo, brought in on loan from Bournemouth for the season. Stephen Welsh has been recalled from his excellent Motherwell spell to provide depth at centre-back.

One position that nobody seems to be talking about is the goalkeeper. Kasper Schmeichel has had a nightmare of a season so far.

On the other hand, when given a chance by Wilfried Nancy recently, Viljami Sinisalo was not impressive either. So, in the long run, Celtic will need to sign a goalie. And a perfect option, who they have been linked with in the past, could be available for a reasonable transfer fee.

The player we are talking about is none other than Dominik Livakovic. The Croatian goalkeeper has been heavily linked with Celtic in the past, without a move ever happening. But now, the club might have a brilliant opportunity to get it done.

Livakovic, who has 71 caps for Croatia to his name, is currently on loan at Girona from Fenerbahce. But the 31-year-old has not made a single appearance for them this season.

Unsurprisingly, he is being linked with a move away in January. As reported by Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Dinamo Zagreb has made a loan offer for Livakovic with a €4 million buy option.

But there is a twist in the tale. As reported by SN (via Dinamo Xtra), Fenerbahce initially thought to let Livakovic join his former club for free, in order to get rid of his salary. Suddenly, a request for €2m arrived, which was raised to €3m, and now it reaches over €4m. The Croatian side does not intend to pay compensation for the goalkeeper.

That does open up a window of opportunity for Celtic to swoop in and get a deal done. Of course, if we know the Hoops, they will surely try to negotiate on that figure. But something in that range would be a reasonable amount for a proven goalie who is still 31 years of age and should have a decent amount of football left in the tank.
