Celtic want to sign £12m Danish international striker for bargain fee

Posted on January 19, 2026

It appears that Celtic are now looking to sign the £12 million-rated Danish international striker for a bargain fee.

It feels like Celtic have been linked with about a dozen strikers over the past few days without signing even one of them. With more than half of the January transfer window now gone, the only addition that the Hoops have been able to make is that of Julian Araujo, brought in on loan from Bournemouth after making just one appearance in the first half of the campaign.

Martin O’Neill deserves a ton of credit for winning all three games since replacing Wilfried Nancy, who had managed just two wins in eight attempts before being sacked. That being said, even under the Northern Irishman, the Bhoys are barely crawling past the finishing line.

Celtic need to strengthen their squad. Even O’Neill has not made a secret of it, openly speaking about wanting to see new signings being brought in this month. So far, the board have not been able to deliver. They have two weeks to rectify that.

Amid all this, another striker’s name has cropped up in the Celtic rumour mill. Or to be exact, it has reemerged, after some speculation in the summer as well.

Celtic want to sign £12m Danish international striker for bargain fee

As reported by Ekrem Konur, Celtic and Lyon are set to compete for Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind. His contract expires this summer, and a reduced fee is possible.

Wind is a full Denmark international and currently plays for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. On top of his contract running out, he is also on the sidelines with an injury at the moment. But the 26-year-old is expected to return by the end of the month.

Ideally, Wolfsburg would look for a transfer fee in the region of £12 million to part ways with Wind. But under the current circumstances, a bargain offer might be accepted, which is where Celtic might come in.

At the same time, one has to question whether Wind is the right fit for Celtic or not. The Hoops need a consistent goalscorer at the moment. So far, we have not seen that kind of output from the Danish international.

Wind’s best season was back at FC Copenhagen. He managed 17 goals in 32 games in the 20/21 campaign.

In Germany, he has not scored more than 12 times in a single season. Overall, he has 34 goals in 120 games for Wolfsburg, not the output of an elite goalscorer by any stretch of the imagination.
