Celtic handed double rejection in search of next manager

Posted on November 3, 2025 by Jsport

Celtic have been handed a double in their search for the club’s next manager, as two targets seem to be uninterested in the role.

This has been a great week for Celtic. It had started in an awful manner after Brendan Rodgers put in his resignation and made a Parkhead exit in the middle of a season for the second time in his career. But it is safe to say that the Hoops have bounced back from that low, when many other teams would have just given up on the season.

Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney were brought in to take interim charge of the team. In their first match, they won 4-0 against Falkirk. And they followed that up with a 3-1 win over the Rangers to book their place in the Scottish League Cup final next month, with St Mirren waiting on the other end.

Their search for the next permanent manager goes on though. Interestingly, O’Neill has admitted that he would like to take charge of that final against St Mirren.

It remains to be seen whether his interim run extends for that long or not. One thing is pretty clear though, the 73-year-old club icon is not the long-term solution for the post and a permanent manager will be needed at some point.

As reported by Alan Nixon on Patreon (via GIVEMESPORT), Celtic have considered both Lee Carsley and Craig Bellamy. But the former would return to club football only if “the move appealed”. On the other hand, the latter appears committed to his position, even if the Welsh miss out on qualifying for the World Cup.

To be very honest, Celtic fans would not be impressed if either of those ends up being the club’s next manager. Neither seems to have the experience or proven winning record to succeed at Parkhead.

Celtic need to bring in someone who wins on a consistent basis. That could be Ange Postecoglou or a new name like Nicky Hayen or Kjetil Knutsen.
