49ers consider selling “fantastic” £20,000-a-week Rangers star this summer

In what would be a major loss for Danny Rohl, the 49ers will now consider the big-money sale of one of Rangers’ most important stars on one condition this summer.

As far as Rohl is concerned, his job is just getting started at Ibrox. The German has transformed the Gers since his arrival, so much so that they could sit top of the Scottish Premiership by the time that their game against Hearts comes to an end this Sunday.

That will be the fixture circled in most calenders around Scottish football, but Rangers still have a job to do against Motherwell before then and they’re hardly pushovers. The Gers only defeated the Steelmen thanks to Thelo Aasgaard’s second-half effort at the end of December and will need similar resilience this time around.

Whilst Rangers fans will be feeling nervous, Rohl couldn’t help but admit his excitement ahead of a “special” week, telling reporters: “I don’t know how often you have as a club in one week to have such two big games.

“I’m looking forward to more support in the home game, because I like to play in front of our fans, and we have two great opportunities in one week, and let’s see what we can do.

“It will be special. In all the games ahead of us; Motherwell, Hearts, we have to do a job in Livingston, and then you have these two big games.

“As a supporter you will enjoy when you take the right results, as a manager I will also enjoy these games, because it’s the reason why we play football.”

Reports suggest that Rangers fans have more than one reason to be nervous about this week though, amid claims that the 49ers are now considering the sale of their star man on one condition.

49ers considering Gassama sale on one condition

As reported by Football Insider, the 49ers will now consider selling Djeidi Gassama if Rangers miss out on Champions League qualification by dropping out of the top two in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The Gers already rejected a hefty £10m offer from AS Monaco for their attacking star in the January transfer window, but will be tempted to accept such a bid if it arrived in the summer and if Rangers don’t have the financial boost of Champions League football.

The sale would instantly be one of the biggest in the club’s history, though there would be plenty of questions for the 49ers to answer if they sanctioned it.

Dubbed “fantastic” by Rohl earlier this season, Gassama, who reportedly makes £20,000-a-week at Ibrox, has been one of Rangers’ most important players since arriving from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.
