Newcastle United Again Interested In This Manchester City Youngster: Would It Be A Great Signing For The Magpies?

Newcastle United Again Interested In This Manchester City Youngster: Would It Be A Great Signing For The Magpies?

Newcastle United are once again preparing to show interest in Manchester City’s young goalkeeper James Trafford. Reports suggest the club plans to make a formal bid for him in the January window. The team has been troubled by a slow start to the season and believes a stable goalkeeper could bolster their defence.

Newcastle United have become reinterested in James Trafford

According to the Daily Mail, Trafford himself appears ready to leave the Etihad due to a lack of regular playing time. City spent £27 million to bring the 23-year-old back from Burnley last summer.

He performed brilliantly with Burnley, keeping 30 clean sheets in the recent Championship season. This form put him in the race for City’s No. 1 spot.

The Englishman began the season as the first-choice goalkeeper and played in the opening Premier League matches. However, the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma on the last day of the transfer window changed everything. The Italian international immediately secured his place in the first team, forcing Trafford to sit on the bench. Since then, Trafford has appeared in only a few matches.

To maintain his place in the England team and further his club career, Trafford is reportedly ready to look for a new club in January.

Why would it be a great signing for the Magpies?

Meanwhile, the Magpies could be interested in signing him again. The club has long coveted Trafford. However, Newcastle’s goalkeeping position is already full, with both Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale in the mix and battling to become the first-choice spot. Bringing in Trafford could require the club to make significant changes to its goalkeeping setup.

Trafford could be a future-proof signing for Newcastle United, but how the team will accommodate him in an already crowded goalkeeping department remains a major question. If the club plans well, Trafford could prove to be a great long-term investment. However, we don’t see City letting him leave the club so soon.
