Newcastle official confirms Luciano Valente interest – Dutch reporter spills the beans

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Newcastle United are scouring the globe for an exciting young midfielder to join our squad in the coming windows.

With Joelinton approaching 30, coupled with Crystal Palace’s interest Joe Willock, who is out of contract in 18 months, the recruitment team are right to scour the market for potential additions.

In the last few weeks alone, we’ve seen the young duo of Kees Smit and Aleksandar Stankovic linked, and both have been touted as future stars and potential bargains outside the inflated Premier League market.

And now, with a little help from a Newcastle scout, another top youngster from the continent has been linked with a possible move…

Another Dutchman watched

According to Dutch commentator Jeroen Grueter, a Newcastle official was in the Netherlands last week to watch Feyenoord talent Luciano Valente.

Grueter claims that he spoke to one of our scouts, who was in attendance at Feyenoord’s win at Telstar last Sunday, with the unnamed club official eager to see the 22-year-old in person.

Discussing his interaction with the Newcastle scout, the Eredivisie commentator said (via Soccer News):

“I happened to speak to a key Newcastle United scout yesterday who was in Velsen-Zuid. We were chatting for a bit, and he said: ‘I wanted to see him with my own eyes.’

“Of course, there’s no guarantee he’ll immediately take over in the Premier League. I do think he scores highly in many areas.”

It’s a club Newcastle built a strong relationship with just a few seasons ago, with Feyenoord delighted to have Yankuba Minteh on loan before he was regrettably sold to Brighton months after his impressive spell in Rotterdam.

Who is Luciano Valente?

With one goal and two assists so far this season, the right-footed Valente recently made his debut for the Dutch national senior side, highlighting how well he’s been performing at club level ahead of a World Cup year in 2026.

The former Groningen talent stands 6ft 2″ and can operate as a holding or attacking midfielder, suggesting he’d be adaptable in Howe’s 4-3-3 system.

The question is, do Newcastle really need another midfielder? Right now, that positions looks well stacked with Bruno, Tonali and Joelinton all backed up by Ramsey, Miley and Willock.

However, we are lacking attacking options able to break into the box, while talk of a January exit for Willock could open up a space in the squad.
