We are now just about a week away from the January transfer window opening, so here are the latest Newcastle United rumours and reports.
With the injury crisis hitting Newcastle hard this month, there is every chance Eddie Howe and PIF will look to spend and reinforce the squad in the New Year.
It was recently claimed Newcastle could spend £50m on a player in January, but it’s all about getting the right player.
Meanwhile, there are still reports regarding the future of a number of current Newcastle players to dive into, with some departures potentially on the horizon.
Newcastle’s new targets include Sacha Boey
The latest name linked with Newcastle is Sacha Boey. Apparently, the Bayern Munich right-back is wanted by a few Premier League clubs, and he is thought to be keen on coming to England.
Another new name on the Newcastle radar is Honest Ahanor, with reports suggesting he could cost £53m. Newcastle want Ahanor, but so do Europe’s elites like Chelsea, Man City, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid.
Both players would add much-needed defensive depth at Newcastle, but it remains to be seen whether the Magpies can outdo their rivals in acquiring their targets.
James Trafford ruled out
There are fresh updates on older targets, too, with a couple of names now looking likely to be ruled out of a move to Tyneside.
Newcastle have admitted they won’t sign James Trafford. He has been linked to the club for months now, but his price tag plus Man City’s reluctance to let him go will likely stand in the way.
It sounds like Allan Elias has been priced out of a Newcastle transfer, too. Palmeiras want just under £40m for the 21-year-old, and the Magpies are not willing to meet that valuation.
Will Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles stay at Newcastle?
Just a month ago, Fabian Schar was linked with a move to Germany. Now, with injuries piling up, Newcastle are keen to keep Schar around, at least for the immediate future.
Jamaal Lascelles is set to leave Newcastle, though. The veteran could depart as soon as January as he looks to get first-team football once he returns from injury.
Meanwhile, fans want Sven Botman sold after the latest injury update on the Swedish defender. He’s missed a lot of football this season and Eddie Howe said he is still not particularly close to a return, leading supporters to describe him as a liability.
Newcastle United transfer round-up: Nick Woltemade, Matt Targett, PIF plans
Rounding out this bumper transfer update, we have learned exactly why Nick Woltemade was signed by the Magpies. Apparently, Newcastle see Woltemade as the start of a new era at the club. Judging by the start he’s made, that was a good decision.
Elsewhere, Middlesbrough boss Kim Hellberg has responded to Matt Targett speculation. It had been suggested Targett would return to Newcastle in January with his loan deal cut short, but Hellberg said he expects the 30-year-old to stay on Teesside until the end of the season.
Finally, it was reported late last week that PIF could sanction £100m worth of spending at Newcastle. It’s thought there could be three new signings next month as the owners look to capitalise on the freedom they have in terms of PSR right now.
