£10m striker named Celtic’s top January transfer target

It is safe to say that Celtic will need to back Wilfried Nancy with plenty of new signings in January, if they want the Frenchman to be a success at Parkhead. He got his first win after five tries, a 3-1 victory over Aberdeen. Even that was far from perfect though. It was not until the 88th minute that Kieran Tierney put the Hoops ahead and on another day, the match could have ended in a draw.

Let’s hope that is a sign that Nancy’s luck is turning. And if that is to be sustainable, Celtic will need to bring in a striker or two in January.

Celtic’s depth up top is poor. Kyogo and Adam Idah were never replaced after they left. Kelechi Iheanacho was signed as a free agent but has proven to be injury-prone. On the other hand, Johnny Kenny does not look clinical enough to be leading the line for the Hoops.

We have seen Celtic being linked with a few strikers in recent weeks. Now, their top target in that position has been named.

£10m striker named Celtic’s top January transfer target

It is a name that the fans will be familiar with. As reported by TEAMtalk, Louis Munteanu tops Celtic’s shortlist for the January window.

Munteanu was rumoured to be a Celtic target in the summer as well. But back then, it appeared that CFR Cluj wanted a transfer fee in the region of €20 million to part ways with the striker.

That transfer fee is believed to have come down significantly since then. Munteanu was not believed to be happy when a move away from the club did not materialise and has lost his form in the aftermath.

Would it be wise to shell out a large transfer fee for a striker who seems to be completely out of form though? It is worth mentioning that Munteanu is not the only centre-forward with whom Celtic have been linked recently. The likes of Kyogo and Evan Ferguson might be potential targets as well.
