‘Agreed’ – BBC Sport confirm bad news for Celtic

BBC Sport have confirmed some bad news for Celtic as they look to bring their campaign back on track under Martin O’Neill.

It is safe to say that Celtic are in a bad position right now and will have to do well if they are to bring this campaign back on track. A lot of that is down to how badly Wilfried Nancy did in his short run as the Hoops’ manager. He lost six of the eight games before the board decided that they had seen enough and sacked him.

Martin O’Neill has been brought in as the interim boss until the end of the season. By now, it is pretty clear that they should have never parted ways with him in the first place, after he led the club to seven wins in eight games despite having a weak squad.

Let’s hope that O’Neill is given some proper backing in the winter, and that Celtic do not hold back just because he is the interim manager. After that, it is down to the club legend to guide the team to success this season with the Premiership and Scottish Cup still up for grabs, and the situation still salvageable in the Europa League as well.

In the long run, O’Neill is not viewed as the solution though. It is more than likely that he will leave in the summer, no matter how the campaign turns out from here.

It looks like one of the names on Celtic’s shortlist for the managerial role has accepted a different post already. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Ben Jacobs said on talkSPORT:

“Gary O’Neill’s a really interesting one, because he was on the shortlist.”

Unfortunately, he is not going to be without a job for much longer and the chance has already passed for Celtic. As reported by BBC Sport, O’Neil has agreed to become Strasbourg’s manager after Liam Rosenior left the French club to join Chelsea.

Let’s see who Celtic ultimately end up appointing as their long-term manager in the summer. For now, the focus has to be on O’Neill and the task that he has been handed.
