Newcastle United send send scouts to Spain to cast further eyes over striker linked with summer move

Newcastle United send send scouts to Spain to cast further eyes over striker linked with summer move

If there are any thoughts that Newcastle United are content after bringing in six new players in the summer, think again.

The Magpies know they can not rest on their laurels, and while Eddie Howe has every right to be happy with his current squad, there is always room for improvement.

One area that proved particularly tricky for Newcastle to recruit was centre-forward after seeing several prospective signings opt to move elsewhere.

Eventually, Newcastle ended up with Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa from Brentford. The former has impressed already, while the latter is yet to even train with his new teammates, thanks to picking up an injury shortly after signing.

Report from Spain suggests Newcastle remain interested in Alexander Sorloth

A deadline day exit for Will Osula was thankfully blocked by the club, as the Danish striker has proved to be very useful so far this season.

However, having three strikers doesn’t seem to be stopping Newcastle from shopping as they continue to monitor the progress of Alexander Sorloth of Atletico Madrid.

According to Marca, Newcastle had scouts in the stands running the rule over Sorloth during the Madrid derby, which saw the Norwegian find the net in a 5-2 win over Real Madrid.

We can’t see Newcastle moving for Alexander Sorloth

Marca’s report suggests the scouts were very excited by what they saw, with their scouting sheets filled with positive comments.

We aren’t too sure we’re buying this one, though. Sorloth was an option in the summer if the Yoane Wissa deal wasn’t going to go through, and given that Sorloth is 29, we don’t see him being a target for Newcastle going forward.

The PIF are determined to get Newcastle back to finding younger talent that can serve the club and still retain resale value. They reportedly weren’t keen on signing Wissa for that very reason, so we can’t see them being too keen on going for Sorloth now that they have Wissa and Woltemade through the door.
