Former Newcastle United star Lee Clark has shared which player he believes is an outstanding example for youngster Lewis Miley

Newcastle United have a future superstar on their hands in the form of Lewis Miley. It can be quite easy to forget that he’s still only 19 as he’s already made over 50 appearances for the Magpies.

Because he’s been in and around the first team for so long, it seems that some fans are holding up to an impossibly high standard after the youngster came in for some criticism for his recent performances.

Thankfully, not everyone felt that way, and most crucially, Eddie Howe had no issues with how Miley has been playing and dismissed any talk of criticism about his young prodigy.

Former Newcastle midfielder Lee Clark is all too aware of the pressure of being an academy graduate playing in the first team for Newcastle, and he has spoken about how Miley has a great example to learn from at the club.

Lee Clark says Lewis Miley can learn a lot from Bruno Guimaraes

Speaking at an event in Blyth (via The Chronicle), Clark spoke about how Bruno Guimaraes is a perfect player for Miley to study.

“Lewis Miley is more than good enough to be in the Newcastle United squad.

“Last season when we won the Carabao Cup, the midfield three were probably the best in the league and I include the teams like Liverpool after they went on to win the Premier League.

“When you’re a young kid at 19, trying to dislodge players like Joelinton, Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, it can be difficult – but what he has to do and I think he is doing is learning from these players.

“He’s learning from them, he’s watching them closely, he’s watching their behaviours and how they train. Bruno Guimaraes must be a brilliant example for him because not only is he a top player but he’s also a top professional.

“You saw him against Bradford; he ran the show and it was like watching him in the Carabao Cup final again. I said to friends at the Espanyol game in the Sela Cup in pre-season, he treat that game like the Carabao Cup final too.

“There’s no difference, whether it’s playing for Brazil or playing for Newcastle, every game is the same and that must be a brilliant example for someone like Lewis Miley.”

Lewis Miley has limitless potential

Miley isn’t blessed with blistering pace like so many in his position, but he has a fantastic football brain and is able to read the game well that he can make up for his lack of pace by being in the right place before he needs to be.

For a player of just 19, he plays with the calmness of someone in the twilight of their career. He’s lightyears ahead of many players his age.

If it weren’t for his injury problems and the fact that he has three absolute titans ahead of him in the pecking order, we’re sure he’d be in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad already.
