Newcastle United are reportedly battling it out with several Premier League clubs to sign Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

CaughtOffside reports that the Magpies are interested in signing the Frenchman, whose future is said to be in doubt at the Santiago Bernabeu. A potential exit isn’t ruled out, and Eddie Howe appears to have the 22-year-old on his wishlist.

Camavinga would be a huge acquisition for the Tyneside outfit and give Howe more options thanks to his versatility. His preferred position is in defensive midfield, but he can also operate as a makeshift left-back.

Newcastle Plotting Move For Real Madrid’s Camavinga

It’s claimed that Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United are all eyeing Camavinga, who has just under four years left on his £260,000 per week contract (via Capology). A fee of €80m (£70m) could bring Los Blancos to the negotiating table.

A move to St James’ Park would be an interesting one, given Howe’s impressive pool of midfield options at present. The English coach has one of the Premier League’s most celebrated midfield trios in Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

That said, the Magpies may want to add an experienced winner like Camavinga to Tyneside who can help the team continue to push for Champions League football. He has got his hands on the European trophy twice since arriving at the Bernabeu back in the summer of 2021.

Howe looked to have been handed a headache earlier this year before the Alexander Isak drama ensued when Sandro Tonali seemed the likeliest high-profile name to depart the club.

Reports had claimed that the Italian told the club he wished to leave, but the 25-year-old may have performed a U-turn.

Interest in Camavinga would have made more sense if Tonali were to have headed off in the summer, but he now appears happy with life at St James’ Park. But adding a holding midfielder of the France international’s quality to Howe’s side could be a massive statement of intent.
