‘Open to joining’ – Fabrizio Romano update is great news for Celtic

We are just one week away from the January transfer window. Time sure does fly fast. It feels like yesterday that we were complaining about how poorly Celtic had managed their business in the summer. They have the chance to put things right next month. And they pretty much need to if they want Wilfried Nancy to be a success story at Parkhead.

Nancy lost his opening four games as Celtic manager before finally managing a win in his fifth attempt, a 3-1 victory over Aberdeen. Even that was far from perfect though as the Hoops had to wait until the 88th-minute to go 2-1 up from Kieran Tierney’s strike.

One area where Celtic need to invest in this January is a striker. They have not had a reliable goalscorer since Kyogo left, and one could argue that even he never showed his best after Ange Postecoglou’s departure.

Evan Ferguson is one of the players Celtic have been linked with in recent times. He is currently on loan at AS Roma but there have been suggestions that the deal could be cut short. And recent events do seem to be pointing in that direction as well.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, Joshua Zirkzee is open to joining AS Roma. The Italian club have been advancing with the player’s camp. Now, it depends on what Manchester United decide to do.

If AS Roma are indeed successful in signing Zirkzee, it is pretty likely that Ferguson would head back to Brighton & Hove Albion. This has been another difficult loan spell for the Irish international striker.

He has scored just three goals for AS Roma so far. Incidentally, two of those came against Celtic, when the two teams met in Glasgow in the Europa League. Could he be plying his trade at Parkhead come January? We will find out soon.

This is a move that has been talked about for years now but has never materialised. But considering how poor Ferguson has been over the past two seasons, one has to question whether he can be the answer for Celtic, or if the club are merely chasing someone who is never going to reach his potential.
