Updates have arrived over the past 24 hours on the futures of Newcastle United defenders Sven Botman and Emil Krafth.
Botman’s been in strong form this season, returning to something close to his best after putting his knee issues behind him, while Krafth has been a rarely-used figure, featuring in just one Premier League game so far.
Starting with the Dutchman, there is positive news to share on the contract front, as The Mail’s Craig Hope reveals that new sporting director Ross Wilson is now in early talks with the centre-back’s camp over a new deal.
Botman’s current contract is due to expire in just over 18 months, and it was recently reported that both Liverpool and Chelsea are long-term admirers of the 25-year-old.
Hope does state that nothing is imminent or advanced at this stage regarding a new deal, but talks suggest Botman is open to extending his stay and Wilson has a positive relationship with the player’s camp.
Moving to Krafth, the same report reveals how the usually reliable Swede could be heading for the exit door in January.
Hope has backed up claims from Scandinavia on Copenhagen’s interest in the 31-year-old defender, revealing that the Danish giants are expected to pursue a deal for the right-back this winter.
Krafth is a valued member of Howe’s squad, but he’s out of contract at the end of the season, meaning this is our last chance to land a small fee.
It’s thought the player would be open to a move closer to his homeland if the security of a long-term contract could be offered, even if he is settled on Tyneside at present with his partner and young family.
