Newcastle United will entertain Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night as they look to secure a victory at home in the EFL Cup. The Magpies managed to earn a hard-fought 2-1 win over Fulham recently, which should give them a lot of confidence ahead of this game.

Eddie Howe will set his side up in a 4-3-3 formation and is expected to make a lot of changes to his first XI for this clash. Fabian Schar, Emil Krafth and Sandro Tonali could all play from the start of this game.

Defence

Aaron Ramsdale will feature in between the sticks for the Magpies as he looks to keep a clean sheet at home this week. Fabian Schar will get the nod to play alongside Emil Krafth at the centre of the Newcastle backline as they hope to keep things solid on the defensive end of the field.

Kieran Trippier will try to impress as the right-back, while Dan Burn hopes to prove his worth on the other side as the left-back. Both of them will get the license to go forward and join in on the attack at every chance they get.

Malick Thiaw will offer cover for the centre-back positions on the bench.

Midfield

Howe could name a midfield three of Lewis Miley, Sandro Tonali and Joe Willock. Their main job would be to make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park and orchestrate some inviting chances in the final third.

Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton will be rested on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the second half if required.

Attack

Harvey Barnes will get a chance to shine as the left-sided wide player, while Anthony Elanga looks to put his pace to good use on the right flank.

Nick Woltemade will lead the line for the Tyneside club up top. He would be eager to get his name on the scoresheet after failing to do so against Fulham last weekend.

William Osula and Anthony Gordon will be available for selection on the bench as they wait for their chance to influence the game in the latter stages if needed.
