Journo confirms Tottenham keen to seal the deal for Bayern Munich star for 2026.

Tottenham Hotspur in talks with Bayern Munich to seal the deal for Joao Palhinha

Tottenham head to Elland Road next to face Leeds United, and it is not the kind of fixture anyone can take lightly anymore. All three promoted clubs have shown far more fight than the teams that came up in the previous two seasons, and Leeds in particular have made their home ground hostile again.

Joao Palhinha stands expected to play a central role. The summer loan arrival has settled quickly at Spurs and, according to Ben Jacobs, is very open to staying beyond the end of the 25/26 campaign.

When Tottenham negotiated the deal with Bayern Munich, Palhinha pushed hard for an option to buy to be included. He wants a long-term future in North London and has started to prove his worth on the pitch. His man of the match outing away at Man City in August, the stoppage time equaliser against Wolves last weekend and the overhead kick versus Doncaster Rovers, all been moments of brilliance he’s been in the centre of.

What a player!

Beyond those highlights, he is building a strong partnership with Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield. Bentancur has just signed a new contract and Palhinha is emerging as ex-chairman Daniel Levy’s best piece of summer business so far.

Given his impact, Spurs see themselves in a strong position to activate the £27m buy option that was a part of the loan deal. At this stage, that looks very possible.

However, Jacobs also reports that Johan Lange and the recruitment team are also weighing up a different route.

Instead of triggering the clause automatically, Tottenham could go back to Bayern and negotiate fresh terms for a lower fee. They believe there remains room to strike a better deal.

Whether Bayern would agree remains unclear considering Palhinha’s current form. A permanent move is very much on the table, but the structure and price could come down to how firm Bayern decide to be once talks open.

What is certain is that Palhinha wants the move and has already made a strong case for Spurs to make it happen.
