A former Rangers defender has secured a move back into Scottish football after agreeing a deal with Airdrieonians.
Adam Devine, a graduate of Rangers’ Auchenhowie academy, has joined the Scottish Championship side on a contract running until the end of the season. The switch marks a fresh start for the defender, who left Ibrox last May and has been without a club for the past eight months.
Devine brings with him a solid amount of experience despite his young age, having previously enjoyed loan spells at Queen’s Park, Brechin City, Partick Thistle and Motherwell. During his time at Rangers, he made 11 first-team appearances, with his senior debut coming under former manager Michael Beale.
The move to Airdrieonians offers Devine the chance to relaunch his career while playing a key role in the club’s fight to avoid relegation to League One. The Diamonds currently sit eighth in the Championship table, four points clear of bottom-placed Ross County, although their rivals have two games in hand.
Speaking after completing the move, Devine expressed his excitement at returning to action.
“I’m delighted to be here and I’m grateful for the opportunity,” he said. “I can’t wait to get started and I’m looking forward to getting out there and showing what I can do in front of the fans.”
Devine is not the only defensive reinforcement to arrive at the club this window. Airdrieonians have also added centre-back Charlie McArthur, who joins on loan from Newcastle United’s Under-21 setup. McArthur made the move to the Premier League club in 2022 after leaving Kilmarnock and will add further depth to the Diamonds’ back line for the remainder of the campaign.
