Leeds United player faces injury setback – Return delayed until 2026

Posted on November 27, 2025

Leeds United have probably had enough of Max Wöber and everything to do with the Austria international. Daniel Farke wasn’t impressed with his commitment to the club, and his exit – actually cutting all ties -mappears to be a saga dragging on for years.

He’s now on his second loan in German football. Similar to what will have been the case when he went to Borussia Monchengladbach, the desire will be for Werder Bremen to buy him.

That’s looking far from nailed on right now.

The 27-year-old has played 79 minutes of football so far this season. Those minutes came in August in a DFB Pokal match.

Wöber also spent much of last season out for Leeds United, and his injury issues are making a sale more difficult. A month ago he spoke to Werder Bremen’s local media and was confident. The defender said the plan was to start training in a week and then full training in two weeks.

Four weeks later and he isn’t there yet, still recovering from a muscle issue.

Leeds United chances of transfer fee dwindling

Deich Stube, well connected at Werder Bremen, say that Wöber has been running some laps of the training pitch, that’s about it. He’s ‘still some way off’ being able to train with his teammates.

Now there’s a belief the Leeds United owned player won’t return to the pitch until 2026.

Werder Bremen official Peter Niemeyer has told Deich Stube that Wöber aims to be training with his teammates by the end of the year: “There’s no question of a setback. The healing process is simply taking a little longer.

“He’s putting his situation into perspective and showing the necessary patience. Throughout his injury, he’s stayed close to the team, which is good for him and the group. As a positive person, he contributes a lot.”

Leeds United would very much like him to contribute a transfer fee at some point.
