It would be safe to say that the Celtic board have a lot to prove in this winter transfer window. The fans want changes to be made, having seen the squad gradually weaken over time. A large reason behind that is their inability to recruit the right players, and when they do, the failure to get deals over the line. Oftentimes, they are found negotiating over the fee before other clubs swoop in.
To be fair, there have been some changes behind the scenes lately. Peter Lawwell has stepped down as chairman. On the other hand, the club also showed the exit door to Paul Tisdale alongside the sacking of Wilfried Nancy, as the ‘football doctor’ was believed to have played an instrumental part in bringing the French manager to Parkhead.
Martin O’Neill needs to be backed in the winter transfer window though, if he is to have any chance of guiding the club to silverware this season. He might only be the interim manager for the rest of the campaign, but there is no harm in adding some quality immediately rather than waiting until the summer.
There is a positive update on the situation. As reported by Football Insider, Pete O’Rourke said:
“The recruitment team at Celtic are working overtime to try and bring in fresh blood to try and inject some impetus into that Celtic team right now.
“He [O’Neill] will be hoping that he will get the backing from the board.
“They obviously have come in for bit of criticism from fans for not putting their hands in the pockets and making too many signings for Celtic.
“So yeah, it’s a huge window for Celtic.
“They need to make signings and some top class signings as well just to improve that squad if they are to have any chance of catching Hearts at the top of the table.”

It is very clear that what this team needs more than anything else at this moment is quality. There is no point making multiple signings if they will not add something to the team.
Over the years, we have seen the club go out and make plenty of project signings. But rarely have they worked out for the Hoops.
For a change, why don’t they sign players who have a decent chance of actually making an immediate impact at Celtic? That would be a decent idea. Don’t you think so?
