Martin O’Neill Breaks Silence on Celtic’s New Signings

Posted on February 3, 2026

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has spoken about his thoughts on the three transfer deadline day signings brought to the club.
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has spoken about the new signings he brought to the club, and he had a lot to say.

The Hoops finished off the transfer window with five loan signings through the door, sending five players away from the club as well. Fans are torn on the quality of the transfer window, but O’Neill seems excited about what the new squad members can bring to the club.

Junior Adamu will “enhance” Celtic
After struggling to play and score at SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga, Junior Adamu has made the jump over to Scotland on a loan-to-buy deal.

The 24-year-old forward has shown promising signs across his career that have fans excited, and everyone is eager to get behind their new man.

Speaking about the signing, O’Neill said:

“”We are really pleased to welcome Junior to Celtic. He has experience of high level football. He has also been involved in European competition, so we are bringing in a talented, experienced, international forward to really enhance our attacking options.””
The forward can play across the entire front line and likes to play direct football. He is a quick player who will be looking to lead the Celts to victory.

Benjamin Arthur is “excellent” player
Having made his senior debut for Brentford in the Carabao Cup this season, Benjamin Arthur joins Celtic in the search for more game time.

Celtic have struggled for centre-back cover since Cameron Carter-Vickers suffered an injury earlier in the season. With Stephen Welsh returning to Motherwell on loan after his brilliant start to the season under Jens Berthel Askou, Arthur has come in to bolster our defensive options.

Speaking about his arrival, O’Neill said:

“”I’m really happy that we have brought Benjamin to the club, and I think he can be a very important addition to our squad during the remainder of the season. He is an excellent player, with real attributes, good height, strength and speed, and I know he can only help and improve the squad across the number of games which we will face over the next few months.””
With only one senior game under his belt, being thrown into the deep end at a club that expects success can go either way. O’Neill seems confident that he can thrive in this environment.

“Talented” Joel Mvuka is a positive step
Joel Mvuka was expected to join Celtic permanently for a fee of around £3 million, but due to a last-minute medical issue, the deal had to be reworked, with the winger joining the Hoops instead on a loan-to-buy basis.

Mvuka has failed to register a goal or assist this season, but has also been struggling for starts at Lorient. Despite his record on paper, he is the type of player that Celtic were looking to help them up front.

O’Neill seems chuffed with the deal too, saying:

“”Joel is a talented player who has a very good level of experience achieved at some really good clubs. He will give the squad another option, he is very quick, able to play on both wings and I am sure he will make a very positive contribution to the club. I know he is very excited about joining Celtic and we are hoping he can make a great impact for us.””
The player is buzzing to be joining up with the Hoops, admitting that he has already been thinking about the incredible Celtic Park atmosphere.
