Rangers are “interested” in signing Philadelphia Union defender Olwethu Makhanya, according to a new report.
Makhanya has played 53 games for the MLS side since joining from Stellenbosch in 2023.
The South Africa international could be added to Derek McInnes’ squad this summer, according to Sky Sports.
However, Rangers could lose centre-back John Souttar, with Leicester City interested in a move, according to the same source.
The League One club are keen on the 29-year-old, who signed a new one-year deal at Ibrox in February. Several Championship sides are also monitoring his situation.
Souttar, who did not join the squad for pre-season training in Spain last week, has made more than 130 appearances for Rangers since joining four years ago. He also lifted the League Cup during his time at the club.
Leicester’s interest in the defender could be aided by the fact that former Rangers head coach Russell Martin is now in charge at the club. Souttar’s brother Harry is also on the books at the King Power Stadium.
Rangers have already bolstered their defensive ranks this summer with the signing of Ben Godfrey, but appear keen to add further reinforcements.
