Newcastle are dealt a major blow as £55m summer signing Yoane Wissa suffers setback in his return from a knee injury

Newcastle are dealt a major blow as £55m summer signing Yoane Wissa suffers setback in his return from a knee injury.

Newcastle striker Yoane Wissa is set to miss another FIVE matches after a minor setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

The £55million summer signing was due to return in the first match after the international break at Brighton.

However, Eddie Howe has revealed that, after a visit to a specialist this week, Wissa will need another two weeks before he is ready to play. That means a potential debut at West Ham on November 2.

Wissa had not even trained with his new team-mates when he suffered the injury playing for DR Congo, just a week after his arrival from Brentford.

Howe said: ‘Yoane saw a specialist again yesterday for a check-up on his knee. We probably think now it’ll be eight weeks rather than six (from the point of the injury). It’s no recurrence or problem, just slightly longer.’

His absence has seen fellow signing Nick Woltemade carry the responsibility at centre-forward, and the £69m German has responded with three goals in four starts. He again looks set to lead line at home to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Newcastle United finally get chance to scrap PSR and challenge Premier League ‘cartel’

The plan was for Wissa to carry the load in the early weeks of the season, given his Premier League experience.

There is regret inside the club that the 29-year-old was never injured during four seasons at Brentford.

In better news, £38m midfielder Jacob Ramsey has recovered from an ankle injury suffered during his first start at Leeds in August and will be in the squad this weekend. He was set to be out until the middle of this month.
