Celtic make move for Swedish league’s top goalscorer

Posted on December 26, 2025

It looks like Celtic have made a move for the Swedish league’s top goalscorer, as the Hoops look to end their search for a striker.

It is no secret that Celtic need to sign a striker, or perhaps more than one, in the January transfer window. Kyogo Furuhashi left last winter and was not replaced. Remarkably, he is one of those being linked with a return to Parkhead. Adam Idah’s exit was sanctioned in the summer without having a replacement in place first, and then the club failed to complete a deal for Kasper Dolberg.

Ultimately, the club ended up signing Kelechi Iheanacho as a free agent after the summer transfer window had closed. The Nigerian striker has proven to be injury-prone though, and even when he has played, his numbers have not been exceptional by any means. The former Manchester City man has managed three goals in 10 games, with two of them coming from the penalty spot.

So, it is pretty clear that Celtic cannot rely upon Iheanacho to lead the line. They will need to add to their forward ranks. And the Swedish league top goalscorer is now in their sights.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic have been credited with an interest in £3 million-rated GAIS striker Ibrahim Diabate. The Hoops have made a transfer approach for the Swedish league’s top scorer.

Diabate scored 18 league goals and shared the top scorer award in the Swedish Allsvenskan with August Priske. So, Celtic seem to be looking to bring in an in-form forward rather than a high-potential youngster, which had been their approach for years.

Diabate is 26 years of age and entering his prime years. So, this might be the perfect time to sign him if it is a consistent goalscorer that Celtic are looking for.

Before heading to Sweden, Diabete played a lot of his football in Spain. He was on the books of clubs like Mallorca, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla but was never quite able to make his mark there.
