Celtic lose Auston Trusty appeal as SFA throw out complaint over Hibs red card

Celtic have LOST their appeal against Auston Trusty's red card for violent conduct against Hibs.

Celtic have LOST their appeal against Auston Trusty’s red card for violent conduct against Hibs.

The American was sent for an early bath as Celtic stumbled to a damaging 2-1 defeat at the weekend.

Hibs went ahead in the first half before Benjamin Nygren cancelled his strike out but the game turned on a 74th-minute flashpoint when Trusty batted away Jamie McGrath’s arm at a corner.
Ref Matthew MacDermid initially gave nothing but was called over to the monitor by Grant Irvine – and after reviewing it, he deemed it violent conduct from the defender.

Martin O’Neill raged about it after the game and the club revealed on Monday evening they planned to submit an appeal on the grounds of wrongful dismissal.

And it’s now been announced that the Hampden chiefs have dismissed the appeal.

It means Trusty will now miss the huge derby clash with Rangers this weekend.

On the incident, boss O’Neill had said: “Well, I’ve just had a word with the referee. He said he was just going to have a word with the two players, first of all. Then I think VAR intervened and said it was violent conduct.

“I’ve spoken to him. At the end of it all, you can’t do this. If that’s the rules now, it doesn’t matter if someone is holding onto you, in an attempt to breakaway, you can’t thrust down in the manner in which he did to get away. So I’ve been told it’s violent conduct.”
