As Celtic prepare for Saturday’s crucial Premiership clash against Motherwell at Celtic Park, the ongoing suspension of the Green Brigade continues to cast a shadow over the club’s support.
Now entering its 19th week, the ban affects around 250 season ticket holders in the North Curve and will extend to its 30th home match this weekend. At present, there is no clear sign of an immediate resolution.
Celtic Fans Collective Statement
The latest update comes from the Celtic Fans Collective (CFC), which released a public statement on March 10.
While the statement mainly addressed dangerous crowd conditions during the recent Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox Stadium, it also provided an important update regarding the Green Brigade situation.
According to the CFC, any decision regarding the group’s return now primarily rests with Police Scotland through the Safety Advisory Group (SAG).
If approval is eventually granted, North Curve supporters may be expected to place their trust in new policing and stewarding arrangements. However, supporters have reportedly not yet been given details about how those arrangements would operate on matchdays, nor have they been involved in discussions about their implementation.
Meeting With Celtic Officials
The statement follows a key meeting on March 9, 2026 between representatives of the Green Brigade and officials from Celtic FC.
Although early discussions suggested some progress in dialogue, reports from fan sources and forums indicate the ban remains firmly in place.
The position of Police Scotland also appears unchanged. Authorities reportedly remain unsatisfied with evidence of behavioural changes since the October 2025 incident involving Falkirk, which initially triggered the suspension.
Any potential return could also involve conditions surrounding anti police messaging including banners or social media activity.
Club Silence and Fan Frustration
Throughout March, Celtic have not issued an official statement regarding the outcome of the March 9 meeting or the comments made by the Celtic Fans Collective.
Instead, the club’s public communications have largely focused on commercial activity including the launch of the new Adidas Irish Origins collection.
That move has drawn criticism from some supporters who argue the promotion appears tone deaf while the fan dispute remains unresolved.
Growing Supporter Debate
Supporter sentiment has become increasingly vocal across fan platforms.
Many fans point to perceived inconsistencies particularly regarding upcoming derby matches against Rangers. Full away allocations including groups such as the Union Bears are expected to be honoured despite recent incidents.
Meanwhile, the continued exclusion of the Green Brigade remains in place despite the group being widely credited for helping create one of the most vibrant atmospheres at Celtic Park especially during a tight title race.
Calls for greater transparency from the board along with discussions about potential boycotts of future season ticket renewals are now becoming more common among sections of the support.
Wider Concerns Raised
The Celtic Fans Collective also linked the Green Brigade issue to broader concerns about policing and supporter safety particularly following the dangerous crowd conditions reported at Ibrox during the recent cup tie.
Supporters argue that they are being asked to accept external conditions without meaningful consultation which raises questions about who ultimately controls fan access and matchday policies at Celtic Park.
Uncertain Path Forward
With the Scottish Premiership season approaching its climax and important fixtures still ahead, many supporters believe a united and vibrant Paradise could be crucial in the coming weeks.
Whether this situation results in the Green Brigade’s return or a prolonged standoff between supporters, authorities and the club remains unclear. What is certain is that the debate surrounding the issue continues to intensify.
What Do You Think
Should Celtic push harder for a resolution, or is Police Scotland’s involvement a necessary safety measure?
