Celtic Flop in Line for £10 Million Transfer This Winter

A former Celtic flop could be set for a £10 million transfer this winter, with the move also expected to benefit the Hoops financially.

In recent seasons, Celtic’s recruitment has been a mixed bag. While the club have brought in plenty of new faces, too many have failed to make a lasting impact at Parkhead. That said, several players who struggled in Glasgow have gone on to rebuild their careers elsewhere.

Celtic’s most successful recruitment period in recent years came under Ange Postecoglou. However, one signing who failed to truly establish himself during that era was Oh Hyeon-gyu.

The South Korean striker arrived in early 2023 as the replacement for Giorgos Giakoumakis. Despite flashes of promise, Oh never managed to secure a run of starts and eventually left Celtic Park to join Belgian side Genk.

Since making the move, Oh has enjoyed far more success. Over the summer, he appeared close to securing a £24 million transfer to the Bundesliga, but the deal collapsed at the final stage. While his valuation has since dropped, the striker still looks set for another move away from Genk.

According to a report from The National, Oh is now in line to complete a £10 million transfer to Turkish giants Besiktas. The deal would also result in a financial boost for Celtic.

When Oh joined Genk in a £3 million deal two years ago, Celtic negotiated a sell-on clause as part of the agreement. While the return will be far smaller than what the club could have earned from the failed £24 million move, it should still represent a worthwhile sum.

As for Celtic, attention remains on strengthening their own attacking options. The Hoops have already brought in Tomas Cvancara on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach, but another addition up front may yet be required.

The coming weeks could prove crucial as Celtic look to reinforce their squad while keeping an eye on former players making moves elsewhere.
